June 2018 - Letters to Our Children

My 3 Little Kiddos,

We packed May full of all kinds of things.  We had a weekend getaway at the beginning of the month for Daddy’s marathon in Washington D.C., and then we finished the month with a short vacation in Williamsburg.  In between, Mason, you finished school for your kindergarten year (what??); we went to some birthday parties; you both raced in Grand Prix (where you decorated your own cars this year); we watched lots of t-ball games; Mason had Grandparents’ Day at school; Mommy had the 5th-6th grade girls’ sleepover; we finally sold the Civic and the old mower; and Mommy, Elli, and Rylan took lots of walks together.  Oh and we started getting trash pick up for the first time in Mommy and Daddy’s married life.  So that’s pretty exciting news.  Recently we’ve also had lots of rain.  LOTS. of rain.   Oh yeah and what would the month be without Elli having another ear infection?  During vacation.  It was probably the worst sleeping nights in a row this time.  I think we need to check back with the ENT about how often this is happening and how much pain seems to come with it.  Anyway, I think that was it!  We had a really fun month together!

Elli, you’ve started to say “no!” in the meanest voice and stomping your foot at the same time.  It’s adorable if you’re not the one being yelled at.  You’re still not saying much more than that and “uh huh” for real words, but you say lots of things where your tone of voice sounds like you’re saying real things.  You do also say “owwww” in a really funny way.  You had your first hair cut this month, and although I thought I ruined your hair for a little while, it looks pretty cute now.  You also look so much more like my baby pictures with your new bangs.

Rylan, you have started talking in a baby voice a lot of the time, and I have no idea where that came from.  You are so precious and funny so much of the day.  You have this problem where you completely ignore us giving you directions, though.  So we’re working on that.  You’re also very strong- I think Daddy is jealous of your abs. This month you’ve been saying a lot of “Do you even know what ____ means??” sentences.

Mason, you seem more grown up all the time.  You’re so good with Elli and sometimes with Rylan, if you’re not feeling like you’re competing with him.  You LOVE doing jobs with Daddy outside, and he always says how good of a helper you are.  You’ve already helped him with several projects this month.  You have had times this month where you have the best, most respectful attitude, and you are incredibly helpful.  It’s pretty great to see.  You still love cuddling with Tiptwo, and you are still too rough with him a lot of the time, but he doesn’t seem to mind.

Here are some kid quotes from this month:

“When will I get my silver teeth?”
— Mason
“Are there animals in Chicago?”
— Rylan
“A mouth is just like a big pit...in your face.”
— Mason
“Thank you sir”
”You don’t say yes sir to boys.”
”What should I say?”
”Yes ma’am.”
— Josh & Rylan conversation
“Is Elli’s brain coming out of her ears?”
— Mason, asked during one of Elli's ear infections
“I twisted my head ankle.”
— Rylan
“Why didn’t we name Elle Belle ‘Elle-Oh-Elle’? ”
— Mason, just knowing that "LOL" sounded like a familiar phrase
“We are going to Trader Joe’s. They sell healthy food.”
”Healthy food like french fries? ...Is it called Trader Joe’s because they trade stuff?”
”I’m not sure why they named it that.”
”Do you even know what trade means?”
— Nonni & Rylan conversation

I love you three.

May 2018 - Letters to Our Children

Mason, Rylan, and Elle,

These months go by so quickly!  Here's the synopsis of our April:

The first day of April was Easter, which was a good, full day.  We went to church, spent the day at Nonni and Poppy's with Aunt Michele's family, colored eggs, looked for Easter baskets, and did 2 Easter egg hunts.  The three of you also got a joint Easter present of a new wagon, which we've been using a lot all month.

Mommy and Mason both had birthdays this month.  For Mommy's, Rylan wanted to buy me some toys, so we went to the Dollar Tree so he could pick out two toys for me.  Then we ate lunch at Moe's.

Mason, you got strep on your birthday and missed school and Awana.  It was very sad.  But we did have a small birthday party for you at Ridgeview Park a few days before your birthday, and that was fun.

Almost the whole month was full of ridiculously cold weather...so that made it sort of depressing as far as spring goes.  The weather also affected t-ball for you, Mase; you had 3 games that didn't get cancelled, so that actually kept the schedule from being overwhelming for me.  I think you're having fun with it.

We finally got renters lined up for the rental, and we spent some time this month getting it ready for them to move in.  We also had the school auction this month, and you 3 got to be "babysitted" by some teachers and high school kids.  Daddy ran the Park to Park half marathon at the end of the month.

One big event of the month was Daddy Donut Day at school.  Mason, you and Daddy had so much fun making robots and eating donuts.

Daddy and Mommy got to have the first date that we've had without kids in a very long time this month.  We were hoping it would be warm enough to do outside things, but instead it was snowing.  But we still got to see a movie, go shopping, eat out, and get coffee!

Here are the things you said that made us laugh this month!

“One of Mason’s teeth rotted out and there was blood.”
— Rylan
“I heard a noise that I thought was a skeleton, but I looked at my wall and saw it wasn’t.”
— Rylan
“Is dandelions made out of corn?”
— Rylan
“If I was in real life and I saw that, I would jump in it!”
— Ry
“Nonni, do you even know what a woman is? ....A girl who can’t talk.”
— Rylan
“Is it more important to buckle (my seatbelt) or sing praises to God?”
— Mason
“That’s why Mason should apologize about me not being strong. He doesn’t know everything about me. And he’s not in charge of me.”
— Rylan, said after doing push-ups
“Daddy I’m trying to hit it in first base in football.”
— Rylan
“When I was getting ready to pee outside, for a minute I saw the striped kind of bee!”
— Rylan
“I know how to make salt water! You mix snot then water.”
— Mason

Love you cuties.

April 2018 - Letters to Our Children

Mason, Rylan, and Elle Belle,

This month included Mommy and Nonni taking the cousins (minus Chloe) to the jumping place, Aunt Heidi's family flying back to Zimbabwe, buying a new work car (Camry station wagon!), Sparks-a-Rama, a few warm days but several snow days, and the start of t-ball practices.  Elli also had another ear infection at the end of the month, and Daddy had to go to the doctor for bronchitis.  I would like say it's spring now, but we've already started April, and there is a prediction of 5" of snow for this weekend.  And I'm over it.  I think y'all may still be excited because you don't know that it should be spring!

Quotes from the month:

“Daddy! Did you know your eyebrows look like rainbows??”
— Rylan
“Lilli, did you know there’s blood under everyone’s fingernails?”
— Rylan
“Do kings still exist? Cause they don’t.”
— Mason
“I’m not sure why the kitty even likes you when you’re mean to him.”
“He’s like God- He forgives my sins!”
— Mommy & Mason
“That’s not a bus. It’s a Charlie.”
— Mason (referring to a trolley)
“Mommy, did you know 3-year olds don’t know how to play Marco Polo?”
— Rylan
“Mikayah told me that I’m chewing lemongrass!”
— Rylan, while chewing regular grass
“Daddy, when I’m 4, will you be ok with me rotting my teeth out?”
— Ry
“He’s one of my cousins I’ve never met!”
— Rylan, referencing the random boy at the playground
“Daddy, I’m going to give you a gigantic kiss so your heart explodes in excitement!!”
— Ry Ry
“Mommy, I think I know what that smell is! It’s a diesel!!”
— Rylan, noticing the smell of a diesel while playing at the park
“BUT if I sleep the whole week, I’ll get like a thousand minutes of hot.”
— Ry

I love you and I like you.

Love, Mommy
